Sleep Apnea Treatment Dentist

Improving Your Quality of Life

Sleep Apnea Treatment If you have sleep apnea, it is important that you treat the condition to improve your quality of life. The quality of your sleep has a dramatic impact on your health, well-being and overall quality of life. Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea disrupts your sleep and increase your risk of severe health problems. Sleep apnea is caused by the soft tissues at the back of the throat relaxing while you sleep.

Oral appliance therapy is an effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring. Provided by a qualified dentist, oral appliance therapy uses a custom-fit device worn only during sleep. Oral appliance therapy helps maintain an open, unobstructed airway. Treating sleep apnea is as simple as wearing a custom-made oral device, and many of our patients find this appliance more comfortable than a CPAP machine.

Who is a Candidate for Sleep Apnea Treatment?

Most patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea can benefit from sleep apnea treatment using an oral device.

If you experience any of the common symptoms of OSA listed below, contact our office to schedule a sleep apnea screening exam today.

  • Common symptoms of sleep apnea include:
  • Loud or frequent snoring
  • Silent pauses in breathing during sleep
  • Choking or gasping sounds during sleep
  • Daytime sleepiness or fatigue
  • Waking in the morning and feeling refreshed
  • Insomnia
  • Morning headaches
  • Waking during the night to go to the bathroom
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Memory loss
  • Decreased sexual desire
  • Irritability

We will review your medical and health history as well as any sleep study results. Most of our patients who have sleep apnea benefit from this simple oral device.

What Happens During Sleep Apnea Treatment?

Impressions are taken first to make the sleep apnea device. This device is custom fitted and adjusted for your mouth. It will fit comfortably and provide you with a way to open the upper airway to make it easier for you to breathe. You will be instructed on how to wear the device. It is important that you wear it every night in order for it to work properly for you.
